The Garden for Others is a ministry of Crossroads Assembly of God that provides an opportunity for our church members and our neighbors to grow fresh garden produce for their families and others in the community. The primary goal of the ministry is to address food insecurity while providing healthy food alternatives and an opportunity to connect with the outdoors, the land, and each other.

The winter garden is on track and growing plants of collards, kale, broccoli, cabbage and other early spring vegetables. Harvest of these crops should begin in early May and summer vegetables will be planted about the middle of May.

The goal for this year is to have 20 to 25 families from the church and community participating in the garden project. At this time, we have 16 families on board, and we are still actively recruiting members who want to contribute their time and skills. Garden “members” should only need to work 2 to 3 hours every two weeks. The garden is being grown farm style, which means that everyone tends a common garden space together.

Fifty percent of the harvest will be donated to local food banks, with the remaining fifty percent going to the gardeners.

If you have any questions about the project, contact Gary Higgins at 828-665-0708 or g_adalins@att.net.
