Rev. J. Michael Brown
Pastor Mike grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, where at age 12, he realized a call of God upon his life. His family is on the register as one of the first families in Buncombe County. He was brought up in the Southern Baptist tradition. He became aware of the gifts of the Holy Spirit during the charismatic renewal. It was during this time that God deepened his scope of the ministry. In the spring of 1982 in Tulsa, Oklahoma God revealed His visionary plan to him, and that he was to return to Asheville. Later the vision God gave him became the campus of Crossroads Assembly. At Crossroads (formerly West Asheville Assembly), he began his tenure as a Sunday School Teacher, then as a Youth Pastor, an Associate Pastor and at the young age of 24 became the Senior Pastor in 1984. Pastor Mike brings to Crossroads Assembly visionary leadership, practical, energetic, inspirational, and insightful preaching. His colloquial style is born of his rich mountain heritage. Many times his messages are conversational, illustrative and humorous. His heart is to love God’s people as a shepherd and to lead each person into God’s highest purpose for their lives. He and his wife have been married since 1980. Debbie attended Rhema Bible Training Center with her husband and is an Assembly of God Minister. She is a gifted teacher of God’s word, singer and an exhorter. She is sensitive to the Holy Spirit and His gifting. Debbie is known for her practical wisdom and kindness. She has a desire to see every home touched by God. Together Pastor Mike and Debbie have served in fulltime ministry since 1982. He and Debbie have two grown children, Matthew and Lindsey.
Pastor Mike attended Mars Hill College, Rhema Bible Training Center, and Gordon-Conwell Seminary. He is currently working on an Advance Professional Doctorate at Gordon-Conwell in Family and Marriage Counseling. When he completes the program, his goal is to become a family marriage therapist and licensed professional counselor.
Pastor Mike loves his dogs, working out, playing golf and softball.
